Awards
The primary goal of the Philip Sceales and Janet Antrobus Cancer Research Trust is to advance research on breast cancer management. The trust supports this objective by providing annual financial support via three mechanisms: a Breast Cancer Research Award for doctors and researchers, a Post-Graduate Funding Award, a Distinguished Visitor Award.
Breast Cancer Research AwardEvery year the trust provides a Breast Cancer Research Award to a distinguished individual who delivers the best presentation in the field of breast cancer research at the Surgical Research Society of Southern Africa's annual meeting. This award is adjudicated by the Society, and it is used to further that individual's research or support travel and/or costs to attend relevant medical conferences. The eligible candidates must be affiliated with a South African university. A further requirement with this award is that research will be published by an accredited journal on the list of the South African Department of Higher Education and Training.
The current value of this award is R30 000 (R25 000 paid out immediately and balance within 2 years of publication). Breast Cancer Research Award. |
Distinguished Visitor AwardThe trust also provides funding for a Distinguished Visitor Award, which covers part of the cost for a prominent breast cancer specialist to travel to South Africa to share knowledge at key events and facilities within South Africa.
Currently the trust contributes R75 000 per visitor. Past Distinguished Visitor Award. |
